About Jam’N Grannys Jams and Jellies and Preserves

The Difference between Fruit Butter, Jam and Jelly
Fruit butter: Cooked fruit is pureed, simmered and stirred with sugar and spices until it’s thick and creamy.
Jam: Whole or crushed fruit is lightly jelled with sugar and pectin to make a textured spread or topping.
Jelly: Made with strained fruit juice, sugar, and pectin, jelly is cooked until it’s firm and clear.
| The Jam’N Granny’s sisters started making preserves in the 1960s when Grandma Donna married her high school sweetheart and moved to his family ranch in Nebraska. She quickly learned that canning preserves was an integral part of ranch life. Grandma Donna became a gifted jam maker and regularly took home blue ribbons from the county fair. For 40 years, she gave her friends and family delicious homemade jam for Christmas—usually wild plum, raspberry, and chock cherry.
“The best jam we’ve ever tasted.”
A few years ago, Grandma Donna moved to the Oregon Coast to be near her family, including her sister Verna. By this time, Grandma Verna had perfected her Apple Butter recipe. An entrepreneur at heart, Grandma Verna knew the locals would love their homemade preserves. They started selling Apple Butter, Honey, and 8 flavors of jam at local farmers markets. Grandma Verna was right—people love it. And not just the locals. Tourists from around the world stop by their booth for a sample of honest-to-goodness homemade jam and can’t resist buying “the best jam we’ve ever tasted.”

The next season, the sisters added Pumpkin Pecan Butter and 4 new jam flavors. Two summers and 9000 samples later, Jam’N Granny’s now offers 20 mouthwatering flavors and are constantly on the lookout for new ideas. May through October, you can sample their delicious preserves at the Saturday Newport Farmers Market and the Sunday Yachats Farmers Market on the Central Oregon Coast. Or come by their showroom, located on the family’s 5-acre farm. The grannies welcome guests to the showroom—but you have to call first to make sure they’re home.
If you can’t make it in person, you’ll have to take their word for it and order a jar or two on faith. The grannies are confident you’ll agree that it’s the best jam you’ve ever tasted. |
